Well-known cannabis activist Ted Smith is a fascinating figure in our community. Founder and executive director of the Victoria Cannabis Buyers Club (VCBC), Ted has been fighting for the rights of cannabis medical patients for decades. He has an impressive track record of helping thousands of people access the medicine they desperately need, and today, the VCBC is the last remaining compassion club in Canada.
VCBC is currently suing the federal and provincial government over repeated raids, fines totaling $6.5M, and harassment. They've additionally had to deal with multiple evictions stemming from these challenges, despite having the full support of the city of Victoria.
We want to understand the reasons behind Ted's incredible dedication to the VCBC and what keeps him going in the face of multi-million dollar fines. We'll also talk about the history of compassion clubs and why they're still relevant in the age of legalization.
